Go kart engine

There was a time when the best go kart engine was nothing more than whatever old chainsaw or lawnmower engine one might have lying about the garage. And while it might be true that many karts are still built with these engines, there are also companies that build engines specifically designed for karting. They are sold in designs ranging from small and simple to those made for racing.

The average go kart engine is very small compared to what you would find on a car, or even a motorcycle. In most cases, they have less than 220cc’s of displacement. However, because go karts are typically very small, these engines have more than enough get up and go.

The cost of a go kart engine can vary, depending on what you want exactly. Most small engines (those under 5-6HP) can be purchased for just a few hundred dollars. However, larger engines, as well as those “tricked out” for racing can often run much more than that.
